Benchmark Journal Laboratory quality, explained plainly
About

A plain publication about trustworthy numbers

Last updated 13 October 2026

Benchmark Journal is an independent editorial resource about quality in analytical laboratories. It publishes one kind of thing: plain-language reference guides that explain how a laboratory shows its results can be relied on, with the arithmetic shown so that a reader can check it.

This is a publication. Nothing is sold on this page, no account can be opened here, no order can be placed here, and nothing on this site is an offer.

Why it exists

The practices that stand behind a reliable measurement are well established and openly standardised: comparison with other laboratories, control materials, calibration, and honest statements of uncertainty. They are mostly described in documents written for specialists. This resource explains them for everyone else.

How the guides are written

What it is not

Benchmark Journal is not a laboratory, a scheme provider, an accreditation body or a consultancy. It tests nothing and certifies nothing. For requirements that apply to a specific laboratory, the relevant standard and accreditation body are the authority.
